The following is a partial list of volunteer assignments currently available at Advocate Christ Medical Center. The areas listed may not be available at the time of a volunteer's interview. However, new opportunities arise continuously.
Training is required in all areas of service. After training, volunteers must contribute at least four hours one day a week, and a minimum of 100 hours per year. We try to place each volunteer in an area that matches his or her skills and interests. These areas include:
This area is ideal for people who enjoy interacting with others. Volunteers might deliver mail and flowers to patient rooms, visit with patients, or assist families waiting in the emergency department.
Volunteers with office skills and experience have the opportunity to do general clerical work, typing, data entry, mailings and much more.
Some areas of service involve contact with visitors and staff, such as the information desk, surgical waiting area, patient library, mail and flower delivery, emergency room and pediatrics. There are also unique volunteer opportunities that require less time commitment.
Volunteers work along with Guest Services at points-of-entry, greeting, escorting and directing customers. They also provide wheelchair assistance. Guest Services volunteers also work at our medical center's main reception desk answering patient information phone calls.
