Wound management
Call 630-275-7900For most people, wound healing is an ordinary, everyday process. But for some, it can become a serious medical issue requiring specialized care and extensive treatment. If you have wounds that haven't improved in four weeks or haven't completed healing in eight weeks, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital's wound care program can help. Our experts have achieved an average successful healing time of seven to 12 weeks, including healing wounds that have not responded to past treatment.

Assessment & treatment
Our experts extensively assess your wound and overall health, looking thoroughly at issues that may have caused the wound or that may affect wound healing. An individualized treatment plan is then developed to stimulate healthy tissue growth. Our wound nurses support and educate patients and caregivers to continue wound care at home. In addition, we may provide resources for lifestyle adjustments to help with wound healing.
Throughout the process, with your permission, we'll keep your primary doctor informed of your wound treatment and progress. Patients continue seeing their primary doctor for all other health care needs.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
Some wound patients may be candidates for hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy delivers 100 percent oxygen to patients through a pressurized chamber; room air contains about 21 percent oxygen. The combination of high pressure and pure oxygen increases the concentration of oxygen in the bloodstream, permeating deep into body tissues to promote healing. Patients with long-standing wounds typically need 20 to 25 treatments over the course of several weeks.
Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital is home to the only multi-chamber therapy unit in DuPage County; it can treat up to four patients simultaneously.
