Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital’s Future Healthcare Professionals Program Accepting applicants until April 2, 2014

Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital is offering the prestigious Future Healthcare Professionals Program to high school juniors interested in health related (non-physician) careers.

The Future Healthcare Professionals Programs offers observation experiences in hospital departments including nursing, surgery, emergency department, obstetrics, rehabilitation, radiology, pharmacy, pastoral care and laboratory. In addition, the students will create a project as a team to document their experience, impressions and future ideas. The Future Healthcare Professionals Program meets June 09 – June 27 three weeks), Monday through Friday, eight hours a day, no vacation or personal days permitted.

“During The Future Health Care Professionals program, students rotate through several clinical and diagnostic settings. This allows them to see first-hand not only doctors and nurses, but other various allied health professionals. Our goal is for the students to leave the program with a better understanding of what type of healthcare career they might like to pursue.” Stated Barry Rosen, MD, Vice-President of Medical Management at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.

Eight students are selected for the Program by interview, counselor and one other recommendation, written essay, past experiences and grade point average.

Applications are available through local high school guidance counselors and can be downloaded when visiting Advocate Good Shepherd’s website www.advocatehealth.com/gshp/FHCP. The deadline for applications is April 2, 2014.

This is an unpaid multi-faceted observation and project based experience open to high school juniors in the primary and secondary service area of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. For more information about the Program, contact Wendy Perlin of Good Shepherd’s Rehabilitation Department at 847-842-4188.
