Volunteer Opportunities

We invite you to be a vital part of Illinois Masonic Medical Center's mission to serve our community. Our volunteers help provide a caring touch to patients, staff and visitors. More than 500 dedicated volunteers, of many diverse ages and from all walks of life, donate nearly 50,000 hours annually to Illinois Masonic. They worked in more than 100 diverse areas, including cuddling and rocking babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; playing a game with a sick child in Pediatrics; comforting an elderly patient; delivering mail; working in the Gift Shop, and facilitating departmental mailings. Whatever the job, volunteers at Illinois Masonic offer a most precious contribution: their time and talent.

Illinois Masonic uses volunteers in a wide variety of ways. We have three types of volunteers:

  • regularly scheduled volunteers
  • special events
  • occasional volunteers—you must be willing to be called in on short notice

Volunteers may choose whether they prefer to work with patients/visitors or in office settings. Adult volunteers must be at least 18 years old. High school students 16 years of age or older will be considered if we have a signed parental consent form on file.

If you're interested, fill out the volunteer application form and mail it in. Once we talk to your references, we will call to schedule an interview, talk about your expectations, and find a good fit for you to volunteer at Illinois Masonic.

Once accepted, we will arrange for you to have a criminal background check, tuberculosis test and complete a basic orientation, followed by introduction to your assigned area and any additional training that may be required.

For regularly scheduled volunteers, we give preference to applicants who plan to volunteer a minimum of three hours a week for at least three months. Students who are required to do a community service project will need to volunteer a minimum of 40 hours during a single year.
