Prenatal Diagnosis and Treatment Overview
While most birth defects are best managed with medical therapy or surgery immediately after birth, an increasing number of abnormalities can be treated before birth to reduce some of the life-threatening or devastating consequences of the defect.
Our Center offers a full range of the most sophisticated testing modalities, including:
- Targeted sonographic evaluation of structural fetal anomalies
- Prenatal diagnostic procedures: amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and fetal blood sampling
- Ultrafast fetal MRI to pinpoint structural abnormalities
- Fetal echocardiography
- Diagnostic fetoscopy
- Microarray analysis
Some treatments and procedures we offer include:
- Intrauterine blood transfusions
- Bladder and chest shunt placement
- Minimally invasive fetoscopic surgery, including fetoscopic laser ablation for Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome
- Bipolar cord coagulation
- Ex-utero intrapartum therapy (EXIT Procedure)
- Postnatal surgery
