Perinatal Moods Disorders Conference

Program Description:
This is a 2-day certificate of completion course designed for nurses, physicians, social workers, chaplains and mental health professionals who provide care and support to pregnant and parenting women and their families. It will assist in the early identification, assessment, and treatment of Perinatal Mood Disorder in child bearing women.

Achieving Excellence in Clinical Research

This 5th annual all day conference will feature nationally recognized plenary speakers as well as afternoon breakout sessions with other national and regional research experts in important areas related to "excellence" in clinical research (see brochure). The conference will take place on September 25, 2008 at McDonald's Hamburger University in Oak Brook, Illinois. Physician CME (6.0 category 1 credit hours) and nursing contact hours (6.0 INA contact yours) will be available.

Objectives:

  • Identify when QI activities should be reviewed by an IRB and which guidelines should govern QI research.
  • Consider the evidence that supports the performance of IRBs in protecting human subjects.
  • Examine the key issues that merit consideration related to cutting-edge research, such as those involved in gene transfer.
  • Identify important considerations and practices when conducting research with children and their families.
  • Identify new strategies to satisfy clinical trial recruitment milestones.
  • Identify techniques to use for budgeting, billing and creating study documents to achieve compliance with billing rules and requirements.
  • Describe the definition of fraud and its prevalence and discuss the different ways that fraud occurs in clinical trials.
  • Examine the use of local versus central IRBs in ensuring human subject protection.
  • Examine the growing paradigm of professionalism in clinical research.
  • Identify skills and strategies for building an active program of research

    2nd Annual Heart and Vascular Symposium: Prevention to Cure

    Course Description:
    This course will present a comprehensive review of evidence-based medicine for patients with cardiovascular disease or high risk factors. A variety of issues from prevention strategies to the newest in medical and surgical treatments will be discussed. There will be a special emphasis on incorporating the best practices and quality into care, particularly in the Primary Care Physician's office. Lecture topics include: Cardiac transplantation, acute aortic syndrome, pulmonary hypertension, metabolic syndrome guidelines for ordering diagnostic tests. The symposium will also feature a lively debate on the topic of Carotid Stenting vs. Endarterectomy.

    A Day With Your Brain

    Presented by The Neuroscience Institute of Advocate Christ Medical Center.
