Comprehensive wound care services
Call 847-990-5670Wound healing is an ordinary, everyday process. But for some people, it can become a serious medical issue requiring specialized care and extensive treatment.
Wounds that have not healed for more than a month are called chronic wounds. It can be difficult or even impossible to effectively treat chronic wounds on your own or in a primary care physician's office. Often, they have developed due to complications associated with diabetes, pressure, poor circulation, infection or post-operative care, and they require an experienced team dedicated to understanding what's causing them and how to help them heal.
At Advocate Condell Medical Center, we have the wound care expertise to diagnose and treat the underlying issue causing your chronic wounds, and we can help you begin your path to healing.

Outstanding patient experience
Wound care conditions & treatments
Our team extensively assesses your wound and overall health, determining what may have caused the wound and its difficulty in healing. An individualized wound care treatment plan is then developed for you.
What types of wounds can be treated?
- Pressure ulcers (bed sores)
- Wounds from poor circulation (arterial or venous wounds)
- Diabetic wounds
- Non-healing, surgical site wounds
- Infected wounds
- Other chronic, poorly healing wounds
Wound care treatments
Your treatment plan will be customized for you. Examples of some wound care treatments we provide includes:
- Negative pressure therapy, such as Wound V.A.C. Therapy (the application of pressure to a wound using a therapy unit to continuously convey negative pressure to a wound dressing to help promote healing)
- Compression wrapping for swelling or circulation problems
- Debridement (gentle removal of unhealthy tissue in the wound)
- Use of advanced dressings
- Total contact casting (for reducing pressure on foot wounds)
- Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
Expert team, multidisciplinary approach
Our wound care team consists of highly skilled doctors and nurses who have received additional training in wound healing. Our doctors specialize in internal medicine, infectious disease and podiatry. Members of our nursing staff hold advanced certification in wound care, and several of them have received certification in ostomy care as well.
You may be referred to other partner specialists as needed. These may include vascular surgeons, general surgeons, plastic surgeons and orthopedic specialists.
After you have successfully healed, you will return to your physician for continued health management. That may mean if you were under the care of a podiatrist and were referred to the Wound Center for more advanced treatments, you will return to that physician's care upon healing.
Our goal is to help you understand why your wound was not healing and to help you heal. We will keep your primary care physician informed about your wound care treatment and progress. You will need to continue to consult your primary care physician for your regular medical care.
Your first visit
At your first visit, it is important to evaluate your medical history and overall general health. This will help pinpoint why your wound is having difficulty healing.
In order to fully evaluate your medical history, you must complete a patient history form. Print it, complete it and bring it with you to your first wound care appointment. If you're unable to access the form, we can fax a copy to you or provide a copy for you to complete on the day of your first visit. Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment to complete it. Make sure you know the medications you are taking, and, if you have diabetes, let us know how you are managing it.
What to bring
- A list of all current medications and doses (including insulin and aspirin)
- A list of all allergies, medical records, X-rays or test results
- Insurance cards and any required insurance forms (referrals or authorizations)
