Oak Lawn, Ill. – Advocate Christ Medical Center’s leading quality outcomes in heart disease treatment and prevention has resulted in another national recognition – inclusion in Becker’s Hospital Review listing of the country’s “100 Hospitals with Great Heart Programs.”

In a recent news release, Becker’s Hospital Review representatives indicated that heart disease remains the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, but that the hospitals on the publication’s 100 list  “have made strides to combat this statistic through innovative clinical research, high quality care and state-of-the-art treatments.  These hospitals also have extended their services beyond the confines of their facilities by educating their local communities about heart health, helping sharpen our country’s focus on preventive care and population health.”

Hospitals named to the list were selected on the basis of “clinical accolades, recognition for quality care and contributions to the fields of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery,” according to Becker’s Hospital Review.

Selection to the list of “100 Hospitals with Great Heart Programs” is another in a series of national honors that have underscored Christ Medical Center’s work in heart care.  Within the past year, the medical center has earned inclusion on Truven Health Analytics’ list of 100 Top Hospitals®, been ranked by U.S. News & World Report as being among the country’s top 50 hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery and been named one of the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures™ for 2011 by The Joint Commission, a leader in the accreditation of health care organizations in the United States.

“Our success is not due to any one or two factors, but to the cultural change that has affected the entire organization,” said William Adair MD, vice president for clinical transformation at Christ Medical Center.  “Not only has there been a consistent and constant urgency to improve in everything that we do as physicians and associates for the sake and safety of our patients, but a lack of satisfaction with the status quo.  We may have received recognition for what we did yesterday, but we know we can still do better today, and we are always looking for ways to achieve that.”

Becker’s Hospital Review is a publication of ASC Communications, a leading source of business and legal information for hospital and health system leaders and decision-makers from the outpatient surgical community.
