Chicago, Ill. – Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center today was named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® by Truven Health Analytics for a sixth consecutive year.

The 100 Top Hospitals program recognizes organizations that have achieved excellence in several areas, including patient care, operational efficiency and financial stability. Only nine other Illinois hospitals were named to the list for 2015.

“We are thrilled to again be included on this elite list,” said Susan Nordstrom Lopez, Advocate Illinois Masonic president. “That we’ve received the 100 Top Hospital honor for the sixth consecutive year illustrates the support of our community and the incredible work of our amazing physicians and associates, who care for our patients with all their hearts each and every day.”

100 Top Hospital recipients were identified through an in-depth analysis by Truven Health, which evaluated close to 3,000 short-term, acute care, non-federal hospitals in ten areas: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average patient stay, expenses, profitability, patient satisfaction, adherence to clinical standards of care, post-discharge mortality and readmission rates for heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia.

According to Truven Health Analytics, a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of health care, if all Medicare inpatients received the same level of care as Medicare patients treated at the 100 Top Hospitals, more than 126,000 additional lives could be saved each year, nearly 109,000 patient complications would be avoided and more than $1.8 billion in inpatient costs could be saved.

“This recognition is a further tribute to our focus on keeping the patients in our care safe and treating them with the utmost compassion,” said Dr. Robert Zadylak, vice president of medical management for Advocate Illinois Masonic. “We are excited to be again be included on this select list this year, along with our sister hospitals—Advocate Christ Medical Center, Advocate Condell Medical Center, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.”
