Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center Recognized as One of the Country's Greenest Hospitals for Fourth Consecutive Year

Chicago, Ill. –  For the fourth consecutive year, Practice Greenhealth, a national organization for environmentally responsible health care facilities, recognized Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for its environmental excellence.

“We are perennial leaders in energy savings thanks to our great Facilities & Engineering group, and this year we were also able to highlight the green aspects of the Center for Advanced Care and our continued efforts at reducing medical and solid waste,” said hospital Green Team Co-chair Katie Wickman, MS, RN, CIC, who works in Infection Prevention. “This award is evidence of our strong commitment to continually improving our environmental practices.”

Advocate Illinois Masonic received the Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award, Practice Greenhealth’s highest honor. The Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award recognizes 25 health care facilities that exemplify environmental excellence. Winners are chosen from hospitals with the highest scores using Practice Greenhealth’s evaluation system.

Advocate Illinois Masonic also received Practice Greenhealth’s Circle of Excellence Award for Energy. This award is given to the top 10 hospitals who practice the best energy reduction and conservation.

This year, all of the Advocate hospital sites received some level of recognition from Practice Greenhealth. Advocate Illinois Masonic was joined by Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital and Advocate Christ Medical Center in earning the Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award.

Practice Greenhealth presented the awards on May 14, 2015, at its Environmental Excellence Gala in Portland, Oregon, in conjunction with CleanMed, an environmental conference for leaders in environmental sustainability.
