Our rehabilitation care unit provides a comprehensive scope of inpatient and outpatient services for people of all ages, from newborns to seniors. Each program features treatments and therapies tailored to the unique needs of patients.

Inpatient rehabilitation

Inpatient rehabilitation at Advocate Lutheran General is an intensive program provided by highly skilled and experienced professionals working closely with patients and families. Individualized patient-driven goals are established early in the program to maximize functional abilities.

Our CARF-accredited rehabilitation care unit is part of a full-service hospital, and many of our staff members hold specialty certifications. We have earned excellent patient satisfaction ratings, and score high on other outcome measures including average length of stay and discharge destination.

Our programs & technology

Each interdisciplinary team offers a continuum of services with the goal of maximizing patients' function and independence so they can integrate back into home and community as quickly and successively as possible. Many of our therapists have training in specialty techniques relating to the care of patients with brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, amputations, cancer and orthopedic and neurologic condition.

Advanced therapy programs:

  • Amputation therapy: Preprosthetic and prosthetic training in managing transitions and activities of daily living
  • Cancer
  • Neurologic rehabilitation: conditions treated include brain injury, stroke, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis and Guillain-Barre

Specialty programs:

  • Wound care
  • Animal-assisted therapy

Therapy technology:

  • LiteGait partial weight-bearing gait therapy device
  • Constraint-induced therapy
  • Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (Vital Stimulation): an adjunctive modality to traditional swallowing therapy
  • Technology-enhanced cognitive linguistic treatments

The patient resource center on the Rehabilitation Care Unit is a free resource library available to rehabilitation unit patients and their families. The resource center features a computer with links to resources, brochures and resource books.

Adult outpatient rehabilitation

We offer a full range of diagnostic and therapy services, including several state-of-the-art specialty programs, provided by a highly trained team of professionals. Patients are provided one-on-one care, including individualized treatment programs with the goal of returning to optimal health.

Outpatient rehabilitation for neurological conditions

We specialize in outpatient rehabilitation for patients with neurological conditions. Conditions treated at the neuro-rehabilitation location include:
