Speech-language therapy

Speech-language pathologists specialize in the evaluation and treatment of a full range of speech and impairments due to stroke, traumatic brain injury, illness or disability.

Conditions we treat:

  • Speech disorders: Commonly referred to as dysarthria or apraxia, these disorders impact the correct production and sequencing of speech sounds.
  • Language disorders: Commonly referred to as aphasia, this language disorder can impact a patient's ability to talk, understand, read or write.
  • Voice disorders: Change or loss of voice due to injury or neurological condition. A treatment plan will be developed to improve and develop the sound and efficiency of the voice.
  • Cognition: Impairments in the areas of orientation, attention, memory, problem-solving, reasoning, perception, information processing and new learning can interfere with a patient's ability to return safely to normal activities.
  • Swallowing: Commonly referred to as dysphagia, impaired swallowing can alter a person’s ability to eat and drink safely. A swallow evaluation, which may include a videofluoroscopic study, will be completed to determine the appropriate exercises, swallow strategies and diet recommendations. We offer VitalStim therapy for the treatment of swallowing disorders, dependent upon each individual’s needs.
