Chicago, Illinois – Advocate Trinity Hospital will host two summer Farmer’s Markets this year. The first cash-only, outdoor market will be Thursday, June 21 from 10 am to 2 pm, in the hospital’s parking lot located on the northwest corner of 93rd Street and Yates Blvd.

The second market will take place on Wednesday, September 12, during the same hours and in the same location.

“We’re hosting two farmers markets to demonstrate our hospital’s commitment to the community as well as the health and well-being of our neighbors,” says Dan Doherty, Vice President of Operations, Advocate Trinity Hospital. “The community surrounding Advocate Trinity Hospital has some of highest rates of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and stroke in Chicago. And we are dedicated to managing and preventing these conditions, in part, by stressing the important connection between wise food choices and good health.”

Advocate has partnered with Cristina Foods, a wholesale food service distributor, to supply fresh produce and other items for the event. Shoppers will have access to kale, vine-ripened tomatoes and asparagus grown in Illinois. Healthy foods produced in Wisconsin, Michigan and Kentucky will be also be available, including cucumbers, green and yellow summer squash, rhubarb and potatoes. Fresh greens, corn, bell peppers, peaches and blueberries will also be among the market’s many fresh offerings.

Information about healthy eating, recipes and giveaways to lucky shoppers will be available at both markets. There will also be opportunities for people living with diabetes, breast cancer or the effects of stroke to ask questions about how diet impacts their health and learn how to access free educational and moral support.

The upcoming Advocate Trinity events are part of a three-campus series of weekday summer markets. Farmers markets will take place at Advocate South Suburban Hospital, in Hazel Crest, on June 14 and August 15. Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn will host farmers markets on August 1 and September 19. For more information, visit Advocate Health Care’s Facebook page.
