Advocate Health Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy Residency Program

Mission

In support of the Advocate Health mission, we prepare physical therapists to deliver high quality, enhanced care in all settings of cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy using evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning to advance the profession and help patients live fully.

About the Program

The Advocate Health Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy Residency provides degreed physical therapists with supportive, one-on-one training to develop their skillset. Residents receive the experience and mentoring needed to elevate their clinical expertise and prepare them to better meet the challenges of the ever-changing health care environment.

The Advocate Health Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy Residency is a paid, full-time, one-year program that begins in March and continues through February of the following year.

The residency will primarily take place at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, IL.

Position specifics

  • Number of full-time positions: 1
  • One-year program cycle: March 2025 through February 2026
  • Weekend commitment: One weekend shift every four (4) weeks

Your learning experience will involve

  • Critical care ICU placement
  • Temporary and permanent mechanical circulatory support devices
    • Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
    • Impella 5.5®
    • Intra-aortic balloon pump
    • Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD)
  • Outpatient cardiopulmonary physical therapy
  • Pediatric cardiovascular impairments and surgery
  • Additional Opportunities:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support/Basic Life Support (ACLS/BLS) training and certification
    • Member of the Cardiopulmonary Practice Council
    • Research project participation
    • Rounding with multidisciplinary teams
    • Surgical observation
