Application procedure
All applications are received through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS). The surgery residency program ERAS ID is unilmggs.
International Medical Graduates should contact the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and process the ERAS applications through their department. A completed file consists of an ERAS application - we do not process paper applications - along with a minimum of three letters of reference, a Dean's Letter, and a set of official transcripts. All supporting documents are to be processed along with your ERAS application.
Students must specify on the NRMP application form whether they are applying for the preliminary program (NRMP No. 292018) or the categorical program (NRMP No. 292019). In order for any application to be complete, all USMLE Part I and Part II examination scores must be provided.
Personal interviews begin during November and extend into January. Candidates will be interviewed by at least three faculty members from at least two of the participating MGH hospitals. If scheduling allows, applicants are encouraged to attend the Journal Club meetings during the months of October through February. This provides an excellent opportunity to meet with the faculty and residents not available at the time of their interview
