Advanced cancer diagnostics
Find a cancer specialistAt Advocate Health Care, we’re committed to providing the most advanced technology available for diagnosing cancer. Our team of experts uses the latest detection tools to catch the disease as early as possible and monitor the effectiveness of your treatment. More precise information leads to a more targeted treatment plan and, ultimately, better outcomes.
Faster, more accurate results
In addtion to our full range of proven diagnostic imaging options, we offer some of the newest technologies available to give you the answers and information you need to move forward.
- 64-slice CT acanner: The Philips Brilliance® 64-channel configuration breaks through previous boundaries in CT imaging, providing large volume, thin-slice coverage to improve diagnostic confidence, image quality and productivity. This complex scanner provides high resolution images or views of any area of the body.
- Time of flight PET/CT scan: This system plays a key role in radiation therapy planning by precisely mapping out tumor boundaries and avoiding radiation to surrounding normal tissue. They can be used to diagnose and manage many types of cancer, including: lung, colon, esophageal, head and neck, melanomas and brain tumors. This scanner is also used to monitor the ongoing health of cancer survivors.
- 1.5 Tesla MRI: The Philips Achieva® 1.5T MRI scanner provides advanced applications in all areas of imaging. The system provides reduced scan times and increased image resolution, enabling a new dimension in intelligent MRI and maximizing imaging speed, quality, breadth of applications and future versatility.
- 3D ultrasound: GE LOGIQ® 9, a premium ultrasound system, enables us to comfortably obtain and construct 3D images of the body in real time, then explore the smallest details with stunning clarity.
- Digital radiography: X-ray equipment that captures images like a digital camera. Digital radiography uses less radiation, is extremely fast and provides clearer images for improved accuracy. It also has the capability of adjusting image contrast for better views without subjecting patients to more radiation.
- Nuclear medicine camera: A high-resolution camera that provides three-dimensional images of the body and internal organs.
Latest tools in breast cancer detection
As Chicago's breast health leader, Advocate offers the most sophisticated breast cancer screening tools to catch catch any issues with greater accuracy, shorter exam times and faster results.
- Digital mammography: State-of-the-art technology is quicker and more effective in diagnosing traces of cancer and limits radiation exposure and produces enhanced images that reduce need for additional mammograms.
- 3D mammography (tomosynthesis): As the most advanced technology in breast imaging, 3D mammography takes images from multiple angles and arranges these high resolution “slices” into a 3D image. This allowing for earlier and more accurate detection, especially for women with dense breast tissue.
- CAD and breast MRI: Computer-aided detection (CAD) offers enhanced interpretation of screening and diagnostic mammograms, as well as MRI of the breast. Breast MRI can supplement mammography and breast ultrasound to aid in early cancer detection and the diagnostic evaluation of benign breast disease.
- Mammotome® breast biopsy system: A cutting edge, hand-held biopsy device used in conjunction with ultrasound. The Mammotome requires a single, tiny incision, obtains better samples during biopsy and enables more accurate results and earlier diagnosis of breast cancer.
