Prescription drug coverage

Find a pharmacy

You may have a lot of questions regarding your pharmacy insurance and Medicare prescription coverage. At Advocate Pharmacy, we help you reduce the stress of verifying your coverage and getting your Rx prescriptions approved.

What is medication insurance?

Your medication insurance may be a supplement to your health insurance or both health plans might be all in one. Similar to health insurance, you pay a premium and a copay or coinsurance payment when you pick up your prescription medication.

Is Advocate Pharmacy accepted by my medication insurance?

Most major prescription drug insurance plans accept Advocate Pharmacy as a preferred pharmacy. Your insurance company can confirm if we’re included in your drug plan.

Why should I use Advocate Pharmacy?

Medicare Part D FAQ

Medication coverage is available to anyone with a Medicare prescription drug plan or Medicare Part D. To receive this health benefit, you have to sign up for a plan offered by a Medicare-approved insurance company.

A Medicare Advantage plan, also referred to as Medicare Part C, incorporates the benefits of Medicare Part A, Medicare Part B and most often Medicare Part D all into one plan.

Medicare.gov can help you decide which specific plan is best for you.

If you receive health coverage through Medicare, you’re eligible for prescription medications. This coverage is voluntary, and you may choose not to sign up for it. View Medicare.gov for more information.

Your prescription drug costs will depend on the health plan you select, your type of medicine needed and your income level. Many people will have to pay a monthly premium, deductible and other out-of-pocket costs. Medicare users with low income and few assets may be eligible for extra help with out-of-pocket costs. Medicare beneficiaries who have Medicaid coverage may also be eligible for assistance with their out-of-pocket costs.

Your coverage will depend on the plan you choose, as the government doesn’t require every plan to offer the same drugs. Each plan can design its own list of drugs covered, commonly called the drug formulary. Medicare prescription plans include medications commonly prescribed to Medicare beneficiaries who are elderly or have disabilities.

If you wish to change your current health coverage, you must sign up for a new Medicare Part D plan. If you enroll between Oct. 15 and Dec. 7, it helps to ensure you get the prescriptions you need on Jan. 1 of the following year. The enrollment process can be completed at Medicare.gov or when you call 800-MEDICARE. TTY users can call 877-486-2048.

Private drug plans that provide medication coverage are approved by the government. You can search for plans at Medicare.gov.

Check with your Advocate Pharmacy pharmacist, call 800-MEDICARE or visit Medicare.gov. TTY users can call 877-486-2048.
