What is virtual primary care?
Virtual primary care allows you to build an ongoing relationship with a board-certified provider of your choice, that you’ll always see virtually. You can schedule appointments easily online and connect with your familiar and trusted care team through video visits when and where it's convenient for you. Appointments are required and are available 7 days a week from 6 a.m.-11 p.m., with same-day options to see your provider or another virtual primary care provider.
With your virtual primary care provider, you’ll receive the same comprehensive, personalized care you’d expect from a traditional, in-person visit. Insurance is accepted, with no extra fees. And because your virtual primary care doctor is part of Advocate Health Care, you’ll have access to the largest health system in Illinois – with the added flexibility of virtual care.

Whether you’re not feeling well or have a minor health concern, your virtual primary care provider is the best place to start. Services include:
- Visits for minor health concerns like joint pain and eczema
- Sick visits, including for colds, rashes and sprains

How do virtual primary care appointments work?
Once you pick your virtual primary care provider and schedule your first appointment, here’s what to expect.
Before your visit
Because all visits are online via secure video connection, you can have your visit where it works for you – as long as you’re in Illinois or Wisconsin at the time of your visit. Simply log in to LiveWell by smartphone, tablet or computer a few minutes before your visit.
During your visit
Each virtual visit is tailored to your needs, whether managing a condition, addressing a concern or focusing on wellness. Your provider may discuss how you're feeling, review lab results and examine symptoms. Have your insurance card and ID ready.
After your visit
At the end of your visit, your provider will go over the next steps for your care. They’ll also fill existing or new prescriptions and begin coordinating any follow-up visits if needed. When you want to schedule a new visit with your provider, simply log in to LiveWell.
Common questions about virtual primary care
You’ll need a smartphone, tablet or computer for your video visit. For the best experience, confirm you have a strong internet connection and functioning camera, microphone and speakers.

If you're physically located in Wisconsin or Illinois at the time of your visit, you can have an online doctor appointment. This includes being at home, work or in a parked car.
When needed, your virtual primary care provider and care team will coordinate your care at a location near you or connect you to a specialist. Most conditions can be managed over video, but some require in-person visits like annual physicals, lab work, diagnostic testing and screenings.

Unlike other types of telehealth visits we offer – where you connect with a provider for one-time medical needs – you’re establishing ongoing care with a virtual provider. Your virtual primary care provider is your first point of contact when you’re sick, have a health concern or need medication management.
Yes, just like an in-person primary care visit, we'll bill your video visit with your virtual primary care provider to your insurance. This includes Medicare and Medicaid as your primary or secondary insurance.
