Psychiatric services

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital (ALGH) provides a full continuum of psychiatric services. Residents advance their clinical skills by participating in patient care in each of these settings:

Adult Inpatient Psychiatry
Two General Adult Psychiatry units are supported by both teaching and community psychiatrists. A broad range of cases are seen, and focus is on diagnostic assessment, patient stabilization, and treatment initiation.

Child & Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry
Our C&A unit provides comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment to younger patients from kindergarten through high school. Family involvement is integral to the care provided.

Inpatient Addiction Treatment Services
Our Medical Detox unit provides treatment to substance dependent patients admitted to ALGH. Patients are medically overseen as they are safely withdrawn from alcohol and other substances. Treatment plans and recommendations are developed according to individual needs.

Adult Partial Hospitalization Program
The Adult Partial Hospital program is an intensive, structured step-down and/or alternative to inpatient treatment. The program helps patients adjust to and cope with their psychiatric illness, deal with crises and transition back to community living and work activities.

Advocate Medical Group Teaching Practice
Our faculty and resident practice, located in the hospital’s adjacent professional building, draws a broad range of patients from the near northwest suburbs and the northwest portions of Chicago.

ECT Service
Our electroconvulsive therapy program offers both inpatients and outpatients an effective and time-tested intervention for treatment resistant conditions, including depression, bipolar disorder, and catatonia.

Esketamine Service
Our esketamine clinic provides an innovative treatment option for patients with treatment-resistant depression or depression with acute suicidal ideation or behavior. Under medical supervision, patients receive esketamine in a safe, controlled setting, with individualized treatment plans designed to promote symptom relief and improve overall quality of life.

Memory Center
The Advocate Memory Center provides outpatient assessment and treatment for older adults with cognitive decline.  Residents also attend team-based lifelong learning experiences via a recurring Dementia Conference overseen by the Memory Center leadership.

Sleep Disorder Clinic
The Advocate Sleep Disorder Center provides outpatient assessment and treatment of various conditions including sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and sleep-related limb movement disorders.
