SEARCH -Students Exploring And Researching Careers in Healthcare

General Information
The purpose of the program is to provide students with health care careers exploration opportunities while volunteering. It is geared towards junior and senior high school as well as college students interested in healthcare careers and the medical field. The program combines volunteering with educational components.

Program Highlights:

  • Semester-based program.
  • Minimum age requirement is 16
  • Placement on a nursing unit/patient care area
  • 50-hour commitment required
  • Flexibility in shift duration - between 3-4 hours once a week
  • New volunteer training in our state-of-the-art Simulation Center utilizing innovative technology
  • Educational sessions and other department tours / speakers (e.g., cardiac arrest simulation, birth simulation, CPR, Operating Room tour).
  • Students will have opportunities to observe routine, non-invasive tasks performed by clinical staff
  • Students are required to give a presentation about their experience at a graduation ceremony
  • Attend a formal graduation ceremony
  • Students receive a certificate of accomplishment

Program Requirements:

  • Serious interest in learning more about the medical field
  • Commit to 50 hours of service
  • Attend 2 out of 3 educations sessions
  • Complete the volunteer program on boarding requirements (application, medical screening, orientation)
  • Give a presentation at the graduation ceremony
  • Attend a Health Care Career Night at Advocate Condell Hospital
  • GPA 2.5 and above
